Gyokuro, also called shade tea, is one of the highest quality green teas in the world. Gyokuro is actually produced in Japan, but today there are also Chinese plantations that produce this tea according to the Japanese model. The tea bushes are shaded with bamboo mats 2 weeks before harvesting, which creates a characteristic aroma that the Japanese call "umami". Only the tender, fresh leaves and buds of the first days of spring are harvested for the production of this tea. Gyokuro is very rich in minerals, vitamins and polyphenols (often known for its EGCG value).
