Gyokuro translates as "jade drop" and is the most noble tea variety from Japan. To produce it, the tea bushes are covered (shaded) with bamboo mats for a fortnight before harvesting. The resulting reduced photosynthesis ensures a unique aroma. Our Gyokuro Supreme Hiki grows on a tea plantation on the banks of the Hiki River in the Wakayama district in south-eastern Japan. The tea is still produced by hand according to traditional methods. The tea impresses with long, needle-shaped leaves and shines bright yellow in the cup.
